What is Nursing Home Abuse?
The physical, emotional, sexual, or financial mistreatment of residents in nursing homes, assisted living facilities, or other long-term care settings.
Understanding Nursing Home Abuse
Nursing home abuse can take many forms including physical violence, verbal intimidation, neglect of basic needs, overmedication, sexual abuse, and financial exploitation. Facilities have a legal duty to protect residents, and abuse may give rise to civil lawsuits, criminal charges, and regulatory actions. Signs of abuse include unexplained injuries, sudden behavioral changes, poor hygiene, and malnutrition.
