What is Strict Liability?

Legal responsibility for damages regardless of fault or intent, commonly applied in defective product cases and certain dangerous activities.

Understanding Strict Liability

Unlike negligence, strict liability doesn't require proving the defendant acted carelessly. It applies when activities or products are inherently dangerous. Product manufacturers can be strictly liable for defective products that cause injury.

Examples

  • 1Defective airbag causing injury in crash
  • 2Dangerous animal causing harm
  • 3Blasting operations damaging nearby property
